A Christmas Carol Reimagined

“A CHRISTMAS CAROL” REIMAGINED Returns to the Shenandoah Valley by popular demand! Winchester Musica Viva, Winchester’s premiere semi-professional chamber choir, presents performances of a new setting of Charles Dickens’ classic tale, A Christmas Carol. This 70-minute work for a cappella choir and narrator was written in 2022 by Grammy-nominated composer Benedict Sheehan. The performance weaves narration with dramatic choral underscoring to tell the beloved story of Ebeneezer Scrooge’s redemption through ghostly visitations. The storytelling is accompanied by several well-known Christmas carols. Due to overwhelming audience demand last year, Viva is happy to bring A Christmas Carol back to our area for our second-annual performance series! The narrator for the performance will be renowned storyteller, Adam Booth, West Virginia’s 2022 Folk Artist of The Year. Performance One: Saturday, December 14 at 7:30 PM at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church in Shepherdstown, WV. Performance Two: Sunday, December 15 at 3:00 PM at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winchester, VA. Winchester Musica Viva (WMV) is in its 44th year of making high-caliber choral music in the Winchester area. Musica Viva is conducted by Artistic Director, Dr. W. Bryce Hayes, professor of choral music at James Madison University. The 26 singers of WMV are professional musicians, teachers, and church musicians from throughout the broader Northern Shenandoah Valley.
